Gus Hansen

Gus was born in February 1973 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and went to the US as an exchange student in Santa Cruz, California.

His nickname at the poker table is “The great Dane” due to his rapid rise in the poker world and his extremely aggressive playing style. He has said: “I play the players, not the cards". He likes to play a lot of pots and his success is a combination of this aggressive style and good decision-making after the flop.

Before he was a professional poker player, he was one of the world's top backgammon players. He tried to make a living from it, but he felt that the opportunities were too slim to make it happen.

As well as the poker player Doyle Brunson, Gus has been inducted to the poker walk of Fame.

Gus has been very successful at the poker table, especially at the World Poker Tour circuit, where he has taken four first places. Gus total winnings so far are $2,399,986.
